Newly formed D3 Women's team win their first trophy!

ABC 4:0 Midway

Half time team talk; Umpires Tony Wrigley (plus daughter) and David Kay; supporter D2 player Ngaio Merrick (plus Wrigley parrot, Kiki)

It was an early start for us on Saturday and not our usual day for playing, so we were very lucky to field a full team plus two subs (thanks to Shannon and Ri from D2). Our opposition in the Bowl Final were not so lucky, having only managed to scrape together a team with one of their brave outfield players volunteering to play in the goal!

Not only did we provide a team, we also had good support from the D2 Women and David Kay (Prem 2) and Tony Wrigley (D2 Black) who also brought daughter and 'parrot', and were kind enough to umpire the match.

With such a big advantage, the result was inevitable. But Midway put up a really good fight and played some good hockey. Our passing this season has gone from strength to strength and we displayed great teamwork, linking passes all the way up the turf. We also improved on last weeks’ efforts by managing to use both sides of the pitch!

Most of the game was spent in the attacking half, and we showed great tenacity, but were unlucky not to score on multiple occasions in the first half . The Midway keeper doing a great job in saving our best shots. We finished the first half 1-0 up, with the final score a 4-0 win. Goals from Marion Robinson (2), Saij Patel and Catherine Horgan.

It has been a fantastic season, despite the disruptions from Covid. As a squad, we have improved considerably. Our new players have developed really well, and we have all worked together to supported each other throughout the season. As a side we still have a lot of potential and I have high hopes for next season!

A big thanks to Karen Croft for all her care and attention and coaching us this year, and encouraging us to play good quality, passing hockey.
