Experience triumphs over youth

The beauty of having three teams in Division 2 is that we can offer a different experience for people at different stages in their hockey development.

The Black team is mainly people in their 40s and 50s who play Masters together. Maroon is focused largely on young men who are playing Social Summer and club winter together with some older heads. Yellow is made up of playing who have graduated from our youth programme or in the case of four of today's line up still have one or two years to go in youth - again with some older heads.

This is illustrated through looking at the ages of each team - note the lack of players in the 30-40 year old range. That must present an opportunity to put a fourth team in this grade!

The line up in the local derby today illustrates this quite well.

Yellow nine players 18 or under - Maroon two.

Average age of Yellow 21.7 years and Maroon 37.8 years.

The clinical finishing of the older players (how did Ronell become classified as older) was the difference between the two sides.
