Youth Grade is a summer club competition for Years 7-10 held in Term 4. It isn’t an elite competition and is instead focused on connecting school hockey players with clubs, allowing them to get a taste for what club hockey is about, and form connections with the wider hockey community so when they leave school or want to further develop their hockey they know what options are available.
The 2024 ABC Youth Grade programme is made up of two muster/training sessions on Saturdays in September, followed by eight Monday night games commencing on Monday 14th October and ending on Monday 16th December, with five more weekend practices during Term 4. The training sessions and weekend practices are focused on basic skills and understanding the fundamental structures of senior hockey.
The first two muster/training sessions will be used to select the teams. These are on Saturday 14th September and Saturday 21st September (Girls 10am-11:30am on TigerTurf 2 and Miller 3 & Boys 11:30am-1pm on TigerTurf 2)
The programme is overseen by experienced coaches with each team having a dedicated coach. Youth Grade is a development programme and each team has an adult player on the field (or possibly two in the B Grade) to help set the structure and guide play. Typically players from our Premier or Premier 2 sides take this role as many of them have come through the youth grade programme themselves before moving up into the top club grades. The emphasis is on building confidence and improving skill and hockey knowledge as well as having fun.
Depending on numbers we expect to have 4-6 teams in each of the Boys and Girls competitions and whilst we will select teams based on skill level as there are A, B & C grades, we will also endeavour to put friends together if we can. The cost of the programme is $135 which will be due by the end of October. Payment details will be sent out once teams are confirmed.

We look forward to seeing all our returning players from last season and meeting the new ones who want to join ABC in 2024.
