Wayne Highet

Wayne Highet was a founder member of ABC in 1989 and has been a regular player ever since, most recently captaining the ABC Hornets team which is a combination of seasoned and long-standing ABC members and younger players newer to the club. An accomplished defender, the ball seems to magically end up where Wayne has positioned himself and it is very rare that he comes off second best in a tackle. Wayne has consistently represented North Harbour and New Zealand in Masters Hockey.

He has at various times been a member of the ABC Committee, the North Harbour Hockey Board and the North Harbour Masters Committee.

He started playing hockey in Nelson as a primary school pupil at the age of about 8 or 9, continued through school in the Waikato and later in Auckland. Away from hockey, Wayne was formerly an Assistant Area Commander in the Fire Service based on the North Shore. Since retirement, he has become a member of the Helensville Volunteer Fire Brigade, assisting with their administration.
