Wild Finnegans begin again

Updated: Nov 22, 2020

ABC players enjoying the social and fitness aspects of summer hockey

The Wild Finnegans team was started as a family team by Division 2 Women's Manager and Player Christine's niece Kelly with a social and fiteness focus with some family bonding thrown in. It has a mix of soccer players, current hockey players and talented ‘youthful’ hockey players, predominantly ex Long Bay College players.

As the team has evolved we now have a strong past and present ABC based team.

Kelly has filled in during winter seasons for ABC Division 2 women as a striker. George and Ollie are both past Prem level ABC players who have left to join rival clubs. (Chris is working on getting them back in Black and Yellow): they are honest, fun and skilled players, happy to pass on any skills and suggestions to improve our game.

This team was actually Rob's introduction to the hockey turf a few years ago. From here he has developed and now plays Division 2 Men and Masters for ABC. He is motivated to learn and is picking up a range of new stick and ball skills from playing with the higher level players. Rob won a hattrick of awards at the ABC Prizegiving for Most Improved and Best Team Mate voted by his peers in ABC Black. He also won the prestigious Axe Man award for having his nose rearranged by a hockey stick.

Our new Finnegan this year is the Evil Twin, Carey who brings her good humour and strong hockey skills from Division 1 Women. Another new member is Caitlin C from Division 2 Women. She’s a graceful, composed player with insightful timing on tackles and passing.

This year we are fortunate to have Hannah P (who won the President's Cup for club service this year) from our Women’s Prem 3 grade winning team make herself available for us when we are short. We’ll make the most of her coaching and playing experience!

Of course the Wild Finnegan's are a social team with the focus on fun, honest hockey rewarded with a drink and catch up in the Clubhouse Bar after our games.
