Partners in crime - Chris and Rob

Christine and Rob

Christine started playing hockey years back at Torbay Primary School and continued through to Long Bay College. In those days grass was the main playing surface, until the sand turf was opened and teams took turns to play on this fast new dynamic surface. After a break, Chris returned to hockey four years ago answering a Facebook post asking for ladies interesting in joining a competitive team with a social focus. Since then Chris has played summer Masters and winter for the Division 2 team, which she manages today.

She introduced, partner Rob to hockey through a summer social seven a side family team. Rob, a keen sportsman with a football background quickly got up to speed and his first game of 11 aside was for the Waitemata Police District. Since then he’s been hooked, and thrives in the ABC environment as a key member of the Division 2 Black and 35-50 Masters teams.

Both of them work shifts: Christine as a Registered Nurse for Auckland District Health Board and Rob as a police officer. As essential workers they continue to head out to ‘regular’ work while the rest of the country and Auckland were placed into lockdown.

Every Saturday, Chris and Rob can be seen supporting each other’s ABC teams when able to on Saturdays, bringing with supporters from their own team to encourage (and offer constructive advice) from the sidelines.
