James started his hockey career at ABC at a young age where he was coached by Shane Maddaford.

 

He very quickly progressed through the grades, playing his first game in the Prems at the tender age of 15. In 2007 he won the Escott Cup for Most Improved Player for the Prem team; and won the Outstanding Schoolboy in that year and also in 2008.  

 

After a long and distinguished career in the Black Sticks, James returned to ABC in 2018 as Director of Coaching, developing and leading the coaching pathways for the club.
